Update to the 1 year update

So Caroline was sent home on Monday from day care because she had a low grade fever and a couple of other things. I took her straight to the doctor only to find out that she has not only the 4 teeth that I posted about earlier, but 2 more are coming in at the very same time. That makes 6 all together (for those who are mathematically challenged). She only has 8 teeth currently so 6 more is a ton!
Just thought some of you would want to know.

And Caroline is at my sister's house until the end of the week. I will miss her terribly, but hopefully I will catch up on stuff at home and work while she is gone.

1 year updates

  • Caroline had her 12 month doctor's appointment when we got back from our Toronto vacation. She was given 4 shots and the doctor said she was a healthy little girl. We have finally switched her to whole milk and she is eating all table food now. Formula costs a ton so we are thrilled to give her milk, but going out to dinner with a table food eating child is just as expensive!

  • Caroline is becoming more independent. She feeds her self, she holds her own cups and she is starting to pick up her toys. But cutest of all she can brush her own hair. Watch the video to see her do it.

  • Another update is that Caroline is getting 2 molars and 1 other tooth this week. That makes 11 total!

Keep up with Jake

As most of you know, Jake is in Beijing working at the Olympics. He has started his own blog so follow his trip at...

enjoy!

Walker's First Day of School

My nephew, Walker, had his first day of school on Thursday. I spoke with my sister and she said that he was so ready to go and even told her she could leave after she took his picture in his classroom. Walker even rides the bus home in the afternoon with his friends that live in the neighborhood. He is growing up so fast!

Caroline's First Birthday Party

Saturday August 2nd we had Caroline's first birthday party. We had about 40 family members come and celebrate with us.

Ooh, it is cold!
Yummy, cake!

How cute am I?
Daddy, want some?

Yeah, uncle Philip gave us a drum with other really loud musical instruments in it. Thanks Philip!
Caroline received her first baby doll
Aunt Frannie gave Caroline her first softball glove and ball.

Here is a video of Jake and his sister Kate playing later that night.

Our trip to Toronto

Ok, here are my notes and pictures from our trip to Toronto. We had such a good time and we can't wait to go back! As yo can tell you need to read from the bottom of the post up.

Day 9, Saturday July 26th

Our last day in Toronto, Caroline and I stayed at the hotel and packed and I made sure she got a good nap because it had been a long week. After Jake was done working Caroline and I picked him up and we went to Cynthia, Peter and Cooper's house for dinner. The kids got to play together again and after dinner we went on a walk to the corner coffee shop to get some gelato. We continued to walk to the park in their neighborhood and we let the kids play for a few minutes.

Caroline's favorite thing all week...the swings!

Day 7, Thursday July 24th

Caroline and I headed out to downtown Toronto to go to the Toronto Islands and to the CN tower. Caroline had never been on a boat before and she had such a good time looking out the window and see all of the tall buildings and the water!

A view of the CN Tower and down town Toronto from the ferry

We went to Center Island and they have a small children's amusement park called Centerville. Caroline could only ride 3 rides and here are some pictures of her and I on the train. She loved every second of it! I should have taken he on it multiple times, but I was anxious to beat the crowd's to the CN tower.
Caroline and I at the Center Island water fountain

Next we went to the CN tower which is like the space needle in Seattle. The views from it are amazing!
They also have a glass floor that you can walk on. Another one of my phobias is heights so this is not my foot on the glass. I could not get my head to let me step on it, but I got up right to the edge. That was good enough or me.

Day 6, Wednesday July 23rd (AKA Caroline's first birthday)

We started the day off with playing with balloons and unwrapping presents. Caroline loved throwing the balloons up in the air.

Jake loves spiking Caroline hair any way he can!

Then it was cake time! We put down towels on the floor of the hotel and we let her go to town.

Before

After

We went to work with Jake again and it rained all day. Caroline and I took a nap in the umpires room and when it stopped raining we went outside to play. Caroline quickly learned how to push the stroller and loved doing it.

Day 5, Tuesday July 22nd

Caroline and I went to visit all of the animals at the Toronto Zoo. We saw every exhibit...even the snakes that I am deathly afraid of! I wanted Caroline to see everything there was to see.
Welcome to the Toronto Zoo!

The start of the day

We saw tigers basking in the sun
Caroline asleep at the Zoo. Good thing her entrance to the zoo was free.

Beautiful Butterflies
We saw hippos too

By the end of the day Caroline and I were a little crabby as you can tell by this picture.

It was a long day, but I really hope Caroline enjoyed all of the neat animals.

Day 4, Monday July 21st

Every other day we went to the tennis site with Jake. We really wanted to spend some time with him on our vacation. He was really busy working, but we had some fun times together.

Caroline really wanted the big tennis ball, but we decided she did not need it quite yet.

Day 3, Sunday July 20th

This day Caroline and I met my friend Cynthia and her 13 month old son Cooper at the Royal Ontario Museum. Cynthia and her family use to live in Tallahassee and moved to Toronto last year. We ate lunch at the museum cafeteria and then walked around. It was a great experience for Caroline because they have a whole floor dedicated for children. We went in the bat cave, touched a snake skin, and saw all kinds of dinosaur bones. After the museum, we walked down to a huge mega mart called Honest Ed's. It had everything you could ever imagine and more for cheap! We walked through a trendy neighborhood where the University of Toronto is located. We went to a small bakery and got bread for dinner later that night and we stopped for a snack at Tim Hortons which is the largest Canadian fast food chain. We went back to Cynthia's house and we had a wonderful dinner of fillet Mignon and lots of grilled veggies.

Day 2, Saturday July 19th

We went to work with Jake on Saturday to spend some time with him and see all of his co-workers.

Caroline liked our fluffy big bed at the hotel. It was a king bed with a ton of fluffy pillows and down comforters.

Caroline and a kids Tennis racket. She did not like it when I took it away from her.

Day 1, Friday July 18th

Our day started very early because our flight left Tallahassee at 7:00am Friday morning. Caroline did not sleep on either flight until the very end of the 2nd one and then she was out hard. Here is a picture of Caroline going through customs.

After we got checked into the hotel, we drove to a small town called Unionville. It is a quaint little town with a lot of unique shops and restaurants. The main reason we went is because we are huge fans of the TV show Gilmore Girls and part of the pilot was shot in Unionville. The picture below is the building that they turned into Luke's Diner.

We had dinner at a small restaurant that had all Austrian food. We had schnitzel, sausages, and sauerkraut. The food was delicious and Carline had a good time smiling for the camera.

One, two, three, cheese!
