Weekend with the Mathis Family

Last Friday night Caroline and I went to visit Michele, Mike, Walker and Will in Enterprise, Alabama. We spent Friday and Saturday nights there and then came home on Sunday. Saturday morning we went to Walker's basketball game. Walker played well and even though they do not keep score, we think his team won. The rest of Saturday we went back to their house and cleaned out the boys rooms and the play room. Michele sent all of the baby toys home with us so Caroline would have some fun things to play with! Thanks Aunt Michele! We had a great time with them and we cannot wait to go back and visit again.

Dinner at The Hartman's

Last week Caroline and I were invited over to my Aunt Sharon and Uncle Mike's house for dinner. Aunt Sharon made a wonderful appetizer plate and then we had butternut squash soup, a pear salad and we crab claws to go with it, Yummy! We also had strawberry shortcake for dessert. After dinner we watched the first half of the Gator basketball game and played with Caroline on the floor.

Jake's marathon match in Oz

"Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, left, watches umpire Jake Garner clean a mark on the court as he plays Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in their third round Men's Singles match at the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne, Australia, Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. "

Brenda found these pictures and captions on yahoo.com. I wanted to share them with everyone. This match started at 11:50pm Saturday night (Australian time) and was over 4 1/2 hours long. Jake was tired, but he did a great job. Watch for Jake at the Australian Open this week because he will probably do another big match on TV.
I love how they wrote "Lleyton Hewitt, LEFT". Like people would think that Hewitt was Jake! We all know what Jake looks like, come on!

Green Peas and Squash

I am attempting to make all of Caroline's baby food and so far it has been going well. It has gotten me back in the kitchen and I enjoy knowing exactly what is going into her body. The past couple of weeks Caroline has tried green peas and acorn squash. They were both a little different at first, but she has warmed up to them nicely. Yesterday in fact, she had squash and banana and she ate every bit that I gave her. Next we will try pears and apples and I will blog after those.

Sunday with Grandpa

My Grampa came over on Sunday so that Mom and Grandma and Kinsley could go see a movie. They went to see “27 Dresses”.
I played in my jumperoo and Grampa took some pictures. I played with all the animals. Grampa thinks my favorite is when the baby tiger peeks out of the grass. Grampa read me “Is a Camel a Mammal”. It’s a book Grandma got me when she went on a trip last weekend.
Dad called from Australia while Grampa was here and we talked on the phone for a little while. He hasn’t seen my new teeth yet and I’m not cooperating to get pictures of them either. I showed Grampa how I was learning to whistle too!
Mom and Grandma enjoyed the movie and then went shopping. She brought me a lot of stuff but I don’t think there’s 27 dresses here. Then we went to Cracker Barrel and nobody got anything I could eat!

My first broken bone

I thought I would scare everyone with this title. Caroline is fine, I fractured a bone in my elbow on Saturday. I am officially a klutz, but lets blame it one my equilibrium being off since I had Caroline. I slipped and fell in the house and caught myself with my left arm. Caroline was not even in the room when I did this so don't worry. I went to the doctor on Saturday and they took x-rays and said they did not think it was broken, but they were going to have the radiologist look at the films later. They called me back Monday night to tell me that I had a radial head fracture, whatever that is. I went to the orthopedic clinic Tuesday and the doctor decided not to give me a cast because he wants me to move my elbow as much as possible within his limits of lifting 10 lbs. He also gave me some exercises to do and I am quite religious about doing them. I am relieved that I do not have a cast, but at the same time I was looking forward to having a "battle scar." At least I don't have to deal with a smelly cast and having to keep it dry when I am in the shower.

The Circus

Jake, Caroline and I gave our nephews Will and Walker tickets to the circus for Christmas this year. It was this past Wednesday and I think the boys liked it. Caroline slept through the tigers, but all in all she had a good time. Will liked the elephants and Walker liked the clown on the little bike the best. It was fun to spend time with the boys and Michele.

Happy 3rd birthday Will!

December 31st was Will's 3rd Birthday! We went to his birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese with all of our family.
We made Caroline an iron on onsie for her to wear for the special occasion.
Caroline liked to play games with her daddy!

Will and Walker and the special power ranger cake!

Gathering at Chris'

We were invited to Aunt Chris' for a family gathering before christmas. Her daughter Elizabeth was in town and her brother Matt came as well. It was so great to see everyone and we had a great dinner too.

First Teeth and other updates

The day that I have dreaded has come...Caroline started teething! I cannot decide if I will like her little smile more or less with teeth, but it will definitely be different. The started slow and have really picked up the pace in the last week or so. You can finally see them under the skin and one of them has poked through just a tad. The reason I dread this is because she is such a happy baby and teething has made her a little fussy and she has not been sleeping through the night like she use to. Also, I am still breastfeeding and I just know she is going to bite me some day. We have not been able to get a good picture of her teeth poking through, but I will try my hardest and get one soon.

Caroline can also do some fun stuff like sit up almost completely on her own. This is not the best picture, but it is all I have at the moment. She is sitting in her high chair but the back of it is back and she decided to sit up and play. I cannot wait till I can put her on the floor and she can sit up by herself and I don't have to worry about her hitting her head on the wood floor.

Caroline is also getting more hair! Finally! I don't want her to grow hair so I can put frilly bows in it, but I want people to stop thinking she is a boy. This is one of

our favorite pictures.

Starting Solids

On December 26th Caroline started solid food!

We started with mashed banana and I really think she liked it even thought one picture contradicts that. Jake and I felt like she was ready even though she was only 5 months old. She showed all of the signs and I had the week off of work and thought it would be a great time for us as well. She opened her mouth wide and sucked those bananas down pretty fast.

The following week we decided to introduce Carrots. This was a big change from bananas and a note to all moms...CARROTS STAIN EVERYTHING. Shirts, the high chair, spoons, plastic bowls, and even your hands. Invest in a Clorox bleach pen or baby oxyclean. Caroline did not love carrots right away, but has learned, at least, to tolerate them. One night she ate 4 oz of carrots and 2 oz of peas and then fell asleep hard. I called this the carrot coma night.

Next we are going to try small green peas and acorn squash. We will post again after those!

Christmas 2

Christmas Eve we went over to Pete and Brenda's to do Davis side of the family presents. Caroline received her first Gold Ornament from Grandma Sue. It is a very pretty wreath of angles. For those who do not know, Grandma has been giving these ornaments for over 25 years and everyone in the family gets one. This is one of my favorite traditions!
Christmas at our house with the Garner's. Caroline's stage is in the background of this picture. How cute is she?!?!
Christmas Eve, dinner, we traditionally spend with my side of the family. Debbie cooked steak and had a ton of wonderful sides to go with it. She even made a pound cake! We ate and opened presents there and Caroline got money and a super cute Gator cheerleader outfit from Do and then got a Leap Frog Caterpillar from Deb Deb and the boys. It sings classical songs and teaches Caroline about animals, numbers and colors. Now only if it could change her diapers.
Caroline and her daddy.

This present is from Kate and Ed. It is a pillow shaped like a snail that they bought in Budapest, Hungry. It is so cute and Caroline really enjoys tummy time on it.

Christmas Morning...

We had everyone over to our house for brunch Christmas morning. We had a great time and I think we counted over 28 people at one time. Caroline opened presents and received a ton of fun toys and clothes. Thank you to everyone!

Kate and Ed gave Caroline this cute hat that has a blanket attached to it. She was so cute that day!

Christmas morning, before brunch, we let Caroline open her present from Santa. She received soft blocks with pictures of animals and numbers on them.
